William (Bill) N. Macartney III
For 50+ years of service to Indium and the community
We are pleased to present this year’s award in memory of Indium Corporation’s William N. Macartney III.
The Christopher Destito Award was created to honor an individual who possesses the same characteristics as Chris, a founding MVEDGE board member. This award is given to an individual who has had a lifelong commitment to the betterment of the Mohawk Valley.
As an influential Indium Corporation leader, Macartney was instrumental in growing the corporation’s growth, expansion, and success. Under his lead, Indium Corporation grew from approximately 12 employees to 1,000+ and increased from one facility in Utica, NY to a total of 14 facilities worldwide. Indium currently maintains locations in China, Germany, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the US.
As their involvement in a global market increases, it is important to remark on Indium’s longstanding ties across the Mohawk Valley. The corporation was originally founded in 1934 in Utica, NY and their global headquarters are located in Clinton, NY. Their Rome, NY location at 5836 Success Drive opened in May 2022 and is their largest square foot facility in the world.
The opening of this 15th location was met with acclaim and celebration, as this multi-million expansion project broadened horizons for manufacturing potential in our region and contributed to a robust hiring campaign. More information on this project is available here.

The Leading EDGE Awards were instituted in 1998 to recognize companies in the Mohawk Valley who were leaders in their industrial sector and the regional economy. Last year, we hosted a week-long media-filled rollout to celebrate our first in-person Leading Edge ceremony following the COVID-19 pandemic. We promoted an exclusive evening event held at The Turning Stone. We plan to continue this sort of atmosphere for this year, with last year’s event as our framework.
